Ensenada sits on Mexico’s Baja California coast, wrapped around Bahía de Todos Santos with the Pacific on one side and vineyard country waiting inland. It feels relaxed at first glance, then quickly reveals more layers: a working harbor, historic landmarks, open-air markets, seafood counters, and rugged coastal scenery.
Ships dock at the Port of Ensenada’s deep-water pier, close to the waterfront and downtown district. Keep the first part of the day loose. Browse for leather goods and local crafts, stop for a café, or let the scent of grilled seafood settle the lunch plan before you try to overthink it.
For history with a little glamour, visit the Riviera del Pacífico, a former casino resort from Ensenada’s 1930s golden-age heyday. Its ballroom, gardens, museum, and gallery offer a polished look at the city’s past, with enough Old World drama to make the stop feel more cinematic than academic.
South of town, La Bufadora delivers Ensenada’s natural showpiece. The coastal blowhole sends sea spray 100 feet high into the air as waves force through the rocks below, bringing the roar, mist, and theater of the Pacific into full view. The surrounding market adds snacks, souvenirs, and a lively Baja scene before the ride back toward the pier.
Wine is part of the pleasure here, too. Bodegas de Santo Tomás offers an accessible taste of local winemaking, while nearby valleys lead into Baja’s vineyard country for guests who want a longer countryside outing.
Come hungry. Ensenada is known for seafood, especially fish tacos, ceviche, shrimp, and casual waterfront cooking best enjoyed with lime, salsa, and very little ceremony. On an Escape with EFFY charter cruise, Ensenada delivers a vivid taste of Baja: sea spray, market color, historic glamour, vineyard roads, and seafood that makes lunch feel like part of the adventure.
